Scratch Programming

I’ve been trying to get Ryan interested in programming over the last few years. I wanted to show him that creating games can be as fun as playing them. However, finding a good language or system to have him learn with has been a challenge. However, I found an MIT project called Scratch @ http://scratch.mit.edu/ Why the funny name? I have no idea.

It is similar to the block-oriented programming framework used by the Lego Mindstorms system. Here is an example of a program that makes a graphic sprite move around using the arrow keys:

I’ll post more downloadable programs for anyone who wants them as we develop them.
